China’s Pork Wholesale Price in the First Four Months

According to the data from MARA, China’s pork wholesale price in the first four months of 2022 showed a downward trend generally, with the price ranging from 22.26 yuan/kg to 18.52/kg.

It can be seen that China’s pork wholesale prices dropped sharply in Q1, reaching the lowest price at 18.20 yuan/kg in March after the pork production surged while measures to tackle COVID outbreaks hurt demand. However, the pork wholesale price has gradually risen for consecutive weeks since late March as the government carried out six rounds of frozen pork stockpiling to support prices.

Pork prices will increase domestically after the May Day holiday warms consumption. The domestic market shows some confidence in the pork price. We will continue to update China’s pork wholesale price in May for importers to know more about the Chinese market.
