China’s Mutton Wholesale Price in the First Four Months

According to the data from MARA, China’s mutton wholesale price in the first four months of 2022 showed a downward trend generally, with the price ranging from 72.61 yuan/kg to 70.04/kg.

It can be seen that China’s mutton wholesale prices increase slightly in the first two months, reaching the highest point at 72.61 yuan/kg, and then the prices dropped, reaching the lowest point at 70.04 yuan/kg.

The Spring Festival in February is the peak season of meat consumption for Chinese people. After the holiday, meat consumption entered the traditional off-season as the consumer demand for beef and mutton shrank. In mid-to-late February, the weekly price of beef and mutton decreased month-on-month, and it began to enter a seasonal downward channel. Moreover, pig prices remained at a low price, driving down the prices of other meats such as beef and mutton. The last reason pertains to the higher cost of forage and epidemic prevention and control rising.
