China’s Pork Import From Jan to Mar

The import volume of meat and offal totaled 1.666 million tons, down 36.5 percent year-on-year. Among them, meat imports were 1.357 million tons, down 40.4 percent year on year, with 5.60 billion dollars, down 26.0 percent year on year. The import of meat offal decreased 10.8 percent year-on-year to 310 million tons with 830 million dollars, a 1.0 percent year-on-year increase.

Pork imports fell 64.2 percent. From January to March 2022, China imported 685,000 tons of pork and pork offal, down 53.6 percent year-on-year, accounting for 41.1 percent of the total import volume of meat and meat offal. Imports of chilled and frozen pork (including fat pork) were 416,000 tons, down 64.2 percent year on year, while imports were $850 million, down 74.1 percent year on year. For source countries, Spain, Brazil, Denmark, the United States and Canada ranked the top 5, accounting for 30.5%, 19.5%, 11.0%, 7.3% and 6.4% of the total imports, down 67.4%, 33.1%, 68.1%, 78.1% and 69.2% YoY respectively.
